Tutoring Really Is The Quintessential Algebra 2 Helper

For many high school students, Math doesn’t come easy. For a vast number of them, the success they experienced in middle school math soon fades as they enter high school. Many students can get by with the traditional classroom instruction of the teacher, but many more need much more private and individualized help as they tackle more complex Math courses. This is why many school districts, particularly the larger ones, will offer Basic Algebra and Pre-Algebra before they offer the Algebra I course. It really is a progressive process. It really seems like building math skills is like building a home.
Building Math success is like building a home. The basic foundation of a home must be laid solidly in order for the upper stories to be stable and secure. If the foundation of a home is not solid, the walls of the main floors and upper floors will be weak and may crumble. This is true for Math development as well. The basic foundations of math really begin in grade school. Every hear someone say, “I was terrible in Math because I had a bad teacher”. Well, although not totally true, the enthusiasm and patience of a great teacher can never be underestimated when it comes to student success. That elementary Math student who builds the basic skills to perform Math strategies well builds the foundation of confidence and great self-esteem needed for those “upper floors” of Math, like Algebra and Algebra 2. I never had an early solid Math foundation. While I cannot fairly blame the Math teachers I had in grammar school, I certainly did not build the confidence I needed for the more difficult Math courses in high school. Sometimes that foundation needs some extra contractors to make the Math home strong. This is where a tutor comes in.
Tutoring programs can assist the classroom teacher in providing needed one to one help for the struggling Math student. Maybe that student is building his Math home with the wrong tools. The Math tutor can help the student use the right tools, particularly when it come to Algebra, a place where someone the student’s resources start to crumble. Teachers can’t do it all. While there are some teachers out there not supportive of private tutoring because they may feel “threatened” by having someone else teach them, many teachers welcome the one to one support a tutor can give a student. The good teachers know they have limitations to the individual instruction they wish they could give the struggling student. By the time the student who understands Algebra I well grasps the basic concepts, when he takes Algebra 2, it starts kicking his butt.
Thus, tutoring can be the quintessential Algebra 2 helper. If the lower levels of the “Math house” required more individualized help as the concepts became more difficult, certainly by the time the student gets to Algebra 2 he needs the aid of a private tutor. Getting that aid can really mean the difference between a Math house built on unstable ground and one that turns into a real mansion.…

How To Make Your Bar/Bat Mitzvah A Joyous And Anxiety Free Journey – Part 1

As a Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor for 20 years I have a lot to say about this process. Bar/Bat mitzvah is a very significant occasion. It means a lot to parents who want to share with family, friends and their own parents the continuation of a tradition; the uniqueness of belonging to a particular and unique group. It is a day of joy and happiness and yet, it can also be nerve wrecking for the Bar/Bat mitzvah boy and girl and for their parents.
Of course, it is natural that one would get nervous when he/she stands in front of a hundred and more people, getting all the attention and expected to do a good job and not fail. It is natural. Do we fight it? Do we accept it? What do we do to make it less of an ordeal for the parents or the young man and young woman?
From my experience in tutoring thousands of young adults and adults, and preparing them for that special occasion, I have found that there are ways to minimize the chaos, nervousness, butterflies in the stomach and such like.
For tutors, parents, the Bar Mitzvah Boy and girl; this is for you.
Sometimes parents that ARE temple members will need that extra bit of help if their kid is falling behind for whatever reason. They may just need that little extra push and encouragement. There are times when temple members want their son or daughter to have their Bar/Bat Mitzvah in Israel or a place other than the temple sanctuary. In this case the requirements for the special day are different and more flexible.
For the parents who don’t belong to a temple or choose to have a private Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the options are many. But before I get to talk about those, I would like to put to bed a common myth.
The Myth: It takes FIVE OR MORE YEARS to prepare one for his/her Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
The Truth: The above is NOT true. One can get ready for and do an incredible job within a year to two, depending on: a) how much time one is put into it and. b) How fast one learns. One can learn how to read Hebrew from scratch and be taught all the material he/he would need for their special day in ONE year. It is important to choose the right tutor and the right material.
Let’s start with the right tutor: How does one choose the right tutor? What qualities does one need to look for in a tutor?
The right tutor to aid your son and or daughter on their special journey would have most if not all of the following qualities:
• The most important thing is that your son or daughter likes the tutor and feel comfortable around him/her.
• The tutor is very patient and kind.
• The tutor must have a perfect command of Hebrew; this is very important as every word or line your child will read or chant must be clearly translated for him or her. (Understanding the meaning of words make your child more certain and less anxious.)
• The tutor should have a fun method of learning the chants. When a child has fun with the chanting, it goes faster.
• The tutor needs to be well organized so that everything that needs to be covered is taken account and the child is ready on time without any added stress.
• The tutor should be resourceful, knowledgeable in Jewish/Israel history, Biblical stories, Jewish customs, holidays and philosophy. One has to spice up the Bar/Bat Mitzvah journey with Jewish tradition and soul so that the child enjoys the experience.
Look for part 2 of this series where I will cover the things you and your child will need to really get fully prepared; without stress.…

Solution of All the Language Related Problems of Pakistan

It is a known fact now that Pakistan is an unstable country due to many diverse reasons. Negation of the fact will lead to nowhere. It is high time that we must accept this fact and try to find methods to stabilize our country sincerely.
There are many known problems, which are always pointed out by the national and international media like the corruption and the terrorism. While these are acute problems, there are many other problems, which are just as intense but are somehow overlooked. For example, the lack of respect for the languages spoken in Pakistan is one such problem.
There should be a six-step approach to solve all the language related problems of Pakistan.
1. Acceptance of Urdu as the National Language
Every now and then, there is a debate on whether or not Urdu should have been declared the national language. The health of the decision is weighed repeatedly without any results ever. We should train our minds to trust the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and to accept Urdu as the national language.
2. Acceptance of the Regional Languages
We must be tolerant of the fact that people belong to different regions and ethnicities in Pakistan and all of them might not know Urdu. This is totally okay. Everyone has the right to speak his or her mother tongue. Actually when Muhammad Ali Jinnah declared Urdu as the national language of Pakistan, he missed one acute point. The regional languages should also be made second or third national language of the provinces.
3. Accepting the past mistakes of the establishment in East Pakistan
It is an extremely unfortunate fact that the lack of respect for the Bengalis and their language, Bangla was also responsible for the partition of Pakistan. It is high time now that we accept that it was a mistake. We can learn from mistakes only after we accept them.
4. Accepting the present mistakes of the establishment in Baluchistan
Nawab Akbar Bugti passed a bill in the Balochi parliament that Balochi language will be taught to students from the first grade instead of Urdu. After the murder of Akbar Bugti, Pervez Musharraf forcefully reverted to Urdu in the schools of Baluchistan. This has caused a lot of resentment in Baluchistan.
5. Educating the masses about the importance of Urdu
Urdu language is important for the national harmony. In a country of more than a dozen regional languages, there must be a common platform where people of the country can stand united. Urdu is such a platform for Pakistan.
6. Treating the languages just like the developed nations
There is one thing common among the developed nations of the world. They respect their language and take deep pride in speaking them. If we want Pakistan to be among the developed nations, we must respect Urdu. We will have to come out of our inferiority complexes regarding our own languages. Learning English might be an asset, however being good in Urdu is a necessity.…
